The fox thought that the stork was an odd-looking duck -- well, in this case bird -- and teased the feathered one unmercifully. The jokester had even invited the lanky neighbor for dinner once, then showed more cruelty by serving broth in an extremely shallow dish!
The poor stork went home with a growling stomach, since all he'd managed to consume were a few drops from the tip of his long bill.
At some later date, the stork reciprocated the favor by having the fox come over and share a fish dinner.
The fox, too, left with an empty stomach because the stork had put the delicious fish inside a tall jar with a narrow neck!
The fox smiles with apparent glee,
but maybe it hides a silent plea.
What if he is shouting with an inner wail,
"Spare me, Man, don't take my tail!"
