"This is the picture I did for the open Art Rave. The theme was "Shoes". I combined every mother's saving booties, baby shoes and other of her children's childhood odds and ends with my driving past our local RC church just as a Marine Honor Guard was removing the flag-covered coffin from the hearse as the Marine's mom and dad waited at curbside. All of us on the road stopped out of respect and stood next to our cars. The mother raised her face to the sky and collapsed against her husband. I can't even imagine the agony she was going through - a mother burying her son. It was heartbreaking. So I combined the ideas of the Marine, the man, and the mother's memories of a son. I used beaucoup adjustment layers and blending modes."
